Let’s get this out of the way upfront: You shouldn’t need to buy Native COTI anymore. Native COTI refers to the original token that ran on COTI’s old infrastructure - Trustchain, a DAG-based Layer 1. That version was fine for payments, fast transactions, and early Treasury staking. But COTI has moved on. The future is COTI V2 - built on Ethereum, EVM-compatible, and designed for encrypted smart contracts and real-world usage.

If you're just joining the ecosystem, buying Native COTI will likely lock you out of most things that matter going forward.

What’s the difference?

Native COTI (Trustchain) = outdated architecture, limited ecosystem, no future development

COTI V2 (ERC-20) = Ethereum-native token, powers private computation, supports staking and upcoming dApps

Unless you’re dealing with legacy use cases like wrapping COTI for Djed issuance or accessing old staking dashboards, there’s no practical reason to acquire or hold the native token. Even then, bridging from ERC-20 COTI is the preferred route.

But if you absolutely need it…

We’re not here to gatekeep, just to clarify. If you specifically need Native COTI for a leftover integration or internal purpose, there are still ways to get it:

1. Use the official COTI Bridge

If you already own ERC-20 COTI (the standard version), you can bridge it to Native using COTI’s official bridge tool. This is safer than trying to buy it directly

2. Avoid exchanges offering it by default

Some exchanges still list Native COTI or don’t label which version they’re offering. Always verify that you’re getting the Ethereum-based token, especially if you plan to use COTI in dApps, staking, or anything related to V2.

Final Word

The community, the roadmap, and the development effort have all shifted to COTI V2. Native COTI is part of the protocol’s past, not its future. So if you’re wondering where to buy Native COTI…

Ask yourself why first. Because for everything that matters now, what you really want is ERC-20 COTI, the version that’s building toward what’s next.
